Colossal Comeback

Two days ago, fellow neighborhood blogger EV Grieve noticed the disappearance of many building advertisements in the East Village. But it’s also happening further downtown in the LES. Case in point, the tall facade of 77 Delancey which overshadows Allen. Instead of another video game plug, Colossal Media chose a more comical self-serving approach to their ad space. And, quite frankly, it works. The satirical cartoon mural effectively lampoons the current state of the economy, complete with shout-outs to Bernie Madoff, government bailouts, and shopping on credit.

Colossal Media specializes in hand-painted outdoor advertising. Their artwork is all over downtown, and is much easier on the eyes than traditional building advertisements.
