Rivington Pothole

If in the neighborhood, watch your step when crossing Rivington at the intersection of Orchard. There’s a deep pothole smack in the middle of the street. Of course, the sub-freezing temperatures and frequent snows aren’t helping matters.

In Reversal, DOE Reinstates Permits for ZogSports in Lower East Side Schoolyards

At the end of August, ZogSports was dealt a blow when the Department of Education revoked their permits for kickball games at two Lower East Side schools (PS 142 on Attorney Street and Marta Valle/LES Preparatory on Stanton Street). The position was taken based on allegations that the co-ed social sports league is a for-profit business […]

Panade on Eldridge is Closed for ‘Restructuring’ and Will Focus on Catering

Panade Puffs and Pastries – a fixture on Eldridge Street for years - is on a hiatus of sorts. The letter on its front door is perhaps the first sign of demise for the eight-year-old business. Despite assurances that “all is fine” during “restructuring” efforts,  we can’t help but believe the opposite. This more permanent break […]

Courtney Barnett To Play Webster Hall This October

What can we say about Courtney Barnett? Well, she’s pretty much the coolest of the cool. The Aussie singer/songwriter has ruled twenty-fourteen with her latest effort, The Double EP: A Sea of Split Peas, and we continue to obsess over “Avant Gardner.” “History Eraser” is equally badass. Oh yeah, and this week, her cover of […]

Patacon Pisao Opens on Essex Street After Months in Limbo

To anyone frequenting the environs of Essex, it would appear that Patacon Pisao was left for dead. The interior teased the masses for the better part of the last six months without incident (including a mural by artist Joseph Meloy). Not to mention, those yellow neons have also been in place, albeit switched off. Not […]

Galli Restaurant Opening Really Soon in the Old ‘inoteca Space

The Lower East Side lost ‘inoteca back in February, a sad finale for a local standby. Co-owners Jason Denton and chef Eric Kleinman had suddenly decided to end their decade-long rule at the northwest corner of Ludlow and Rivington Streets. Their swan-song included a week-long wine bottle binge that culminated on February 10. Rather than […]

thanks for the warning. I plan to get drunk at the Holiday :Lounge then walk to the lower east side. This would precipitate a nasty fall!

Did you call 311 to report it? My experience is 2 weeks after a call to 311 and it’s fixed.
