An Eldridge Street resident is upset at the Nicholas Cage movie filming in the neighborhood. Apparently the set confetti clogged the roof drains, and last night's deluge caused his ceiling to collapse...
Here's yet another reason to hate Hollywood.
I woke up this morning in my apt on 22 Eldrige St. to find half of my living room ceiling and bathroom ceiling on the floor. Apparently the cause was last night's rain coupled with all the stupid confetti that the movie set people shooting the new Nicholas Cage movie on Eldrige St. have been blowing into the streets for the past week clogging up our roof drains. My apt was thoroughly flooded.
I live next to a Buddhist temple and the monks were scrambling on their roof (which faces my bedroom window) to clear off their roof drain. They were yelling and screaming in desperation which I found quite un-monk-like, but I guess even they act like the rest of us when their roof's falling in on them.
I'm pretty confident that most people on our block (Eldridge St btwn Division St. and Canal St) have had similar issues.
Update: On the bright side of things, the movie crew people have come and assessed the damage and are willing to step up and pay for the repair costs. They even offered to put me up in a hotel for the duration of the fix.
Well my hatred for the movie industry has slightly subsided, but I'm still pissed...I mean I have freakin' hole in my ceiling!

Why the need for so much confetti?
It's in Nick Cage's contract. Every time he goes on set they need confetti cannons.
Nice find Boogie. I am actually amazed that the production company came thru.
I'm in #18, and it has been a very tiring / crazy / maddening two weeks. filming until 6am and then leaf blowers and street sweepers kicking off at 7 left me a mere shell of a man. the highlight was when they blew a fireball out of the window in the apartment across from us. the firemen tried to make us put down our curtains so we couldn't watch (film??) it, but heck on no sleep i though we at least deserved to watch this:
