Good World Officially History

Despite a rumor that Good World would stay open just a wee-bit longer, the eatery is officially history. A quick ten years at the base of Orchard Street. Taped to a shuttered gate beneath a canopy of scaffolding is a sincere farewell letter.
“The Good World Bar, after ten years, shut its doors at midnight Wednesday, April 1, 2009. From the day it opened in the Spring of ‘97, The Good World brought a beautiful spirit and renewed vigor to our little neighborhood. This was the first alternative restaurant below Delancey. It was built with love and a warm light brightened the tip of Orchard Street like a beacon of hope.
Sadly, a greedy landlord who has never stepped in America, and doesn’t speak a word of English bought this building, evicted the tenants in order to flip it. In place of a thriving business that brought life to this corner, he has left us with an empty hole.
Just like CBGB’s, Max’s Kansas City, Studio 54, Danceteria, The Mud Club, Twilo’s, The Saint, The Sound Factory, Tonic, The Crobar, 8BC, Club 57, The Paradise Garage, The Peppermint Lounge, Save the Robots…The Good World Bar is now just a memory. And we loved being a part of it and will always miss it…
White Slab Palace, under the same ownership, is now the de facto torch-bearer.
