Grand Stand 1

While Cemusa continues its quest to conquer the city’s unique street furniture, Grand Street is still holding on for dear life. And successfully, at that. The one-block span between Bowery and Chrystie Street has three blood-red newsstands to serve the bustling outdoor market. Each dilapidated unit might be short on space, but definitely not personality.

LOL, you guys are hilarious. Sometimes I think this is all a big ruse. Like, this Bowery Boogie dude will take a shot of some dog crap on the curb, and then EV Grieve and Jeremiah will all comment something wistful and nostalgic, mixing sweet adoration and regret for a long lost era. “Sigh.. isn’t that beautiful… since they yunnies came, they’ve cleaned up all the dog shit..” Single tear rolls down the Indian’s face.

I guess you guys grew up somewhere where it’s really clean, hence the fetish for anything grimy, shitty, and dirty. But maybe try to reign in your American Beauty complex, and let us city people enjoy something new and shiny once in a while!

There is *nothing* special about these stands. What is special is the neighborhood around them. Stop worshiping shacks of corrugated iron! When Cemusa installs the new ones, they will look all crappy and tagged on and shat on within a year. Then they will regain their “character.” And then in 20 years, when they want to replace them again, jokers like you will be whining that “the character” of the city is being destroyed.

    And on it goes.

those shacks should not be torn down!!! they should be converted to tenements for the writer of this blog to live in….. and then we can go visit his tenement and poop in his tenement after eating falafels in his tenement which give us hives in his tenement.
