FIRE SCENE UPDATE: More Devastation Coming

Devastation with Manhattan Bridge
Up Close and Personal

Thanks to some neighborly reader tips yesterday, we are told that the two buildings adjacent to the East Broadway fire site will soon be razed (within a couple days) due to structural instability. Southbound traffic on Pike Street remains blocked.

Lots of Signs

About a month ago, we commented on the unique signage at this very corner. And just like that, it's gone. A moment frozen in time.

Why do they have to tear down those three buildings? That's ridiculous... now we lose three human scale buildings and a number of diverse businesses for an empty hole in the ground for who knows how long.

Because the two buildings that was adjacent to the supermarket was structurally damaged due to the water. And they shifted. The worse part is, two of those buildings are not covered by insurance...

how many developers you think are clamoring right now to grab this land and put up a boutique hotel?

this fire has devastated the lives of so many, we would hate to see a glass mega-development-boutique-type-thing erected on the site. that would just be an EFF YOU to all who live in the area, especially in those buildings.

And when have the Bloomberg minions ever hesitated to give a working neighborhood a big EFF YOU?
