Shop, Gated

After nigh on a year at 94 Orchard Street, the aptly named women’s boutique, Shop, is finished. Despite the deep spring clearance sales all weekend, the store abruptly shuttered after business hours on Sunday night. There were no outward signs or warnings of its impending doom. Needless to say, it was a somber scene, with three employees moving out the furniture and packing up the remaining garments.

Drexler’s Takes Over from Ella Lounge on Avenue A

The former Ella Lounge on Avenue A is headlong into renovations to become a new drinking den. Despite the dangling neon still in place above the doorway, remodeling has been fierce since late May when build-out began. The narrow bar at 9 Avenue A now belongs to Drexler’s. From what we understand, the 2,500 square-foot […]

Here’s How You Can Listen to Every Sample on ‘Paul’s Boutique’ with Seattle’s KEXP Radio Show

In case you missed it, and have twelve hours to spare, it’s time turn on KEXP and listen to “Inside Paul’s Boutique.” This past Friday, the Seattle-based radio station assembled a stellar, engaging program that completely dissects (probably) every sample included on the Beastie Boys’ seminal 1989 record. That’s fifteen tracks comprised of more than […]
