Subway Signage on Grand

Subway Sucks

As reported here last week, a Subway outpost is moving into the ground level of 334 Grand Street.  Considering the owners probably wanted a tenant that catered more to the yuppie contingent, this seems like a major hit for the hoity-toity Palazzo Grey.  We walked by the corner property yesterday, and noticed that the official green awning is now affixed to the building facade.  A franchise banner in the window teases with the requisite “coming soon” hype.

Meanwhile, the store signage itself blatantly clashes with this section of the neighborhood.  Especially the small businesses directly across the street, including Ideal Hosiery.  It’s only a matter of time before “Subman” starts bothering residents.

Shafted

And adding insult to Palazzo’s injury, the new awning obscures the relatively new marble namesake.  Shafted!

Architectural signage is somethng very common nowadays and it works like a charm. Although some people may have problems with it, but advertising is very important for business.

A true sign of the times that landlords in this "swank" hood can only attract such a pedestrian chain. As far as I know, Subways are owned by individual franchisees and Subway is notorious for saturating a market with too many outlets.
In a renovated building like this, I can only wonder as too what the monthly nut is, but the new owner is gonna have to sell a lot of sammies.

@Chris. That bread smell is the worst.

And BB, you must get Subman photos! You know he'll be here!

Wonderful, now we can add the horrid smell of subways 'bread' to the odors of the LES. Do you know what the hours of this subway will be? I have a feeling it will be jammed packed with loads of drunks at night.
