Esperanto Cafe Closed for Good

Love or loathe it, the perennial student hangout Esperanto Cafe has closed its doors for good.  The requisite brown paper is taped to the windows of 114 MacDougal Street, and the interior is being cleared out. We called the listed phone number, which, as it happens, is now disconnected.

According to a worker unloading kitchen supplies on scene, the 24-hour coffee shop folded last week and will not be re-opening.  Looks like NYU students are now SOL.  Cafe Reggio and newcomer Third Rail Coffee both seem poised to absorb some of that business.

They'll absorb some of that business, but Esperanto Cafe was a large coffee shop where one could sit around all day.
