2nd Avenue Subway Stop During the Rush

This is a prime example of why you should avoid the 2nd Avenue/Lower East Side subway stop during rush hour.  But especially when it’s raining.  Bottlenecks inevitably form thanks to the cramped subway platform and one narrow staircase to service half the station; it’s almost always a perfect storm.

And, of course, that painful five-minute wait to exit is an eternity in city time.

The station was designed with the 2 Ave exit being larger, since it's the station's namesake. But as we know, 1 Ave is the 24 hour, more popular exit, and thus, more congested.
