Livery Hits Cyclist on Lafayette

The intersection of East Houston and Lafayette is dangerous enough, even without the subway superstation mess that has appropriated the area.  It’s a high traffic zone full of commuters on foot, bicycle, or in cars.  During the morning rush yesterday, a livery driver collided with a cyclist.

The biker was heading north on Lafayette when the driver hit him.  One witness on scene told us that, upon impact, the man rolled off his bike and bumped into the traffic barrier.  And the bike was totaled, trapped beneath the wheels of the livery cab. Thankfully, the man was okay, and walked away from the accident seemingly unscathed.

Modern Fashion & Style Quits Orchard Street for Good

The stock of leather vendors on Orchard Street continues to freefall. Four months after Daniel’s Leather shuttered and relocated to Jersey, Modern Fashion & Style decided to call it quits. The store has been closed for over a month, its awning fabric cut out (usually the telltale sign). Not completely surprising, though. The retail unit […]

205 Club on Chrystie Street Relaunches Under Ownership of Nolita House Vets

Earlier this year, we broke news that the Rochelle’s team on Chrystie Street (aka 19 Stanton) was in financial straits. Fast forward six months; half its business is now under new ownership. 205 Club, a name that’s gone through so many friggin’ iterations the last decade, is now helmed by veterans of the recently-departed Nolita […]

The smell of gas in the air was quite pungent on East Houston yesterday evening. Emergency Con Edison crews and firefighters were busy in and around the corner of Eldridge Street. One resident theorized that the purported leakage was probably related to the constant construction in the vicinity. No word yet on the cause of […]
