Firefighters Respond To Suspicious Car Yesterday Morning

Yesterday morning, before Orchard Street woke up for another day of business, the early-risers were greeted with fire engines and hazmat vehicles. No sirens, though. The first responders had a Mercury sedan on a jack while servicing the undercarriage. It wasn’t clear what was happening, but was a bit unnerving.

We chatted with one friendly neighborhood super about the suspicious scene, and he informed us that it was much ado about a leaking gas tank. Apparently, while hosing down the sidewalks, he smelled gas and alerted the FDNY. Moreover, the car in question was an unmarked police vehicle. Everything turned out to be okay, though.
Never a dull moment!
