Candlelight Vigil for 35 Cooper Square Tonight

Posted on: February 22nd, 2011 by

There’s still hope for the little 35 Cooper that could. Thanks to extreme exposure on the local blog front, as well as press from the New York Times, the Federal-style house has a fighting chance. Last week, demolition permits were filed, but the DOB just as quickly issued stop work orders for “failing to publicly display a work permit and failing to properly protect the public and nearby property.”

In keeping with the present momentum, preservation group Bowery Alliance of Neighbors organized a candlelight vigil for 35 Cooper Square tonight.  Be there, 5:30 – 6:30 pm.

It would be nice to see a strong turnout from NYU and Cooper Union students too … a nice way for them to show how much they care for the neighborhood, as many say they do…

This story is a dead issue..it’s time to move on. Only 25-30 people came tonight. Candle light vigils, come on! Asian Pub was a loud dive bar- no historical significance anymore. The building was completely gutted by Hisae in 1998 and nothing worth anything was saved by her. She changed everything including the storefront and windows. Now, the building is falling apart, and the foundation sinking .This building will collapse on its own.. There are plenty of more worthy architectural treasures and causes in the city to focus on
