Lady Gaga is Now Mr. Googly Eyes of 290 Mulberry

Those Lady Gaga branded Supreme bills have been undergoing unique street transformations all across the Lower East Side.  In some instances, the wheat-paste was scraped away, leaving remnant puzzle-piece sections behind.  Others are hand-corrected with felt-tip tags to include insults or jokes.  But our favorite display of these ads is actually on the splintered plywood perimeter of the long-stagnant 290 Mulberry.

It is here that the Fame Monster gradually morphed from pop goddess to Mr. Googly Eyes, thanks to a spray-painted mustachio and set of art store googly eyes.  The ever-evolving guerrilla advertising, in a sense, has become art in its own right.  Meanwhile, all the Supreme bills continue to crack and fade from the weather and street soot.

It’s Time to Seriously Protest Moxy Hotel’s Demolition of an East Village Block

Grab the pitchforks. Marriott hotels, vis-a-vis landowner Lightstone Group, began demolition of a half-block of East Village history earlier this month to construct a 300-room lodge. That’s Moxy. The hotel, that is, geared specifically toward millenials with disposable income. The doomed real estate in question is five “landmark-eligible” buildings comprising 112-120 East 11th Street (across from Webster Hall). […]
