“Showdown in Chinatown” Kicks Off Wednesday Night
On Wednesday evening, for the fourth year running, the Rivington soccer field at Sara D. Roosevelt Park will host the annual soccer-basketball mixer, Showdown in Chinatown. The friendly match is essentially a charitable joint venture founded by two-time NBA MVP Steve Nash and soccer great Claudio Reyna. Proceeds raised from this year’s game benefit Educare Arizona, “bringing best practices in early learning to at-risk children.”

Aside from the namesake players, the roster for 2011 includes Tony Parker (San Antonio Spurs), Grant Hill (Phoenix Suns), Brandon Jennings (Milwaukee Bucks), Jared Dudley (Phoenix Suns), Marcin Gortat (Phoenix Suns) and West Ham’s own Demba Ba.

Showdown in Chinatown is always an entertaining spectator event. Show up early to score prime bleacher or on-field seating. Game starts at 6 pm sharp, rain or shine. See you there.
