Bondi Road Swaps Shark with Shrimp After Local Outcry

Posted on: September 22nd, 2011 by

Apparently those plans of a Lower East Side shark roast at Bondi Road this Sunday didn’t go over too well with the local populace. Many were concerned with dwindling shark populations. Indeed, we received a late-day email yesterday that the Australian restaurant at 153 Rivington Street is scrapping the roast portion of the fifth anniversary festivities in favor of shrimp tacos.

Here is the official press release:

Lower East Side Australian restaurant Bondi Road has announced that it will serve shrimp tacos instead of roasted shark during 5th anniversary festivities planned for Sunday, September 25th.  The change was sparked by customer concerns regarding dwindling shark populations.

“It is not our intention to offend anyone, so we’ll throw some shrimp on the barbie instead,” said the restaurant’s owner Heathe St. Clair.

Another shrimp on the barbie. Take it away, Lloyd…

Ha! Excellent fake controversy! Their publicist is pretty good. They did the same thing last fall at the Sunburnt Cow on Avenue C with the bogus “cow napping” story.
