Carsten Höller’s 3-Story Slide Opens at New Museum Tomorrow [Video]

Starting tomorrow, the New Museum will double as a fun house.  Just in time for Halloween. The newest art installation currently links the fourth and second floors with a ginormous metallic slide.

The 102-foot slide is the vision of artist Carsten Höller, who’s also constructed such ambitious installations is other cities abroad, including Berlin, Milan, and São Paolo. Patrons of the New Museum have the option to suit up in helmets and pads to take the three-story plunge, as it were.  There are probably waivers to be signed…

Anyway, the museum recently released a handful of teaser trailers for the new exhibit (if you can even call it that).

Carsten Höller: Experience is on display until January 15, 2012.

Struggling ‘Red Compass Lounge’ Downsizes on Orchard Street After 8 Months

The loss of the David Owens Vintage boutique to 161 Rivington Street last year is apparently in vain. Completion of Long-Delayed Pier 35 is Nowhere in Sight

“It’ll be at least another year before Pier 35 is finally complete,” read one of our headlines in July 2015. Those words still ring true today, as there really aren’t any updates to speak of. So, here we are, more than five years behind schedule with nothing to show for it except a footbridge, half-built […]

Manhole Fire Erupts on Canal Street, Engulfing Pickup Truck

Fire Department first responders and Emergency vehicles from Con Edison have been on Canal Street the last 45 minutes dealing with an electrical situation below the street. It’s pretty bad, apparently. A pickup truck parked outside Dimes Deli caught fire after a blaze erupted in a manhole beneath. Firefighters quickly extinguished. This is likely related […]
