Carsten Höller’s 3-Story Slide Opens at New Museum Tomorrow [Video]

Starting tomorrow, the New Museum will double as a fun house.  Just in time for Halloween. The newest art installation currently links the fourth and second floors with a ginormous metallic slide.

The 102-foot slide is the vision of artist Carsten Höller, who’s also constructed such ambitious installations is other cities abroad, including Berlin, Milan, and São Paolo. Patrons of the New Museum have the option to suit up in helmets and pads to take the three-story plunge, as it were.  There are probably waivers to be signed…

Anyway, the museum recently released a handful of teaser trailers for the new exhibit (if you can even call it that).

Carsten Höller: Experience is on display until January 15, 2012.

In Which a Hell Square Egg Toss Turns Violent

There is a sense among some that Hell Square is regressing to its former violent self after a brief period of baby-step progress. No more, claim neighbors in the DMZ. Case in point was a rowdy incident this past Monday night (late) involving a crew of revelers outside the Hotel Indigo. A tipster tells us that […]

The City is About to Screw the LES Waterfront Again with this 1,000-Foot Tower

The city will screw the Lower East Side waterfront by allowing this 1,000-foot tower to proceed. Indeed, the Department of City Planning reversed course this week, and will now hear the case for this monstrosity. This despite the ongoing litigation over the contested few parcels on the backside of Extell’s One Manhattan Square. It’s certainly a […]

St. Jerome’s on Rivington Street is Dead, for Real This Time

The gates are now shuttered for good, capping a decade (including a year-long hiatus) for the establishment. The closure follows two months […]
