Practicing Quidditch in Sara D. Roosevelt Park

The answer to that burning question in your brain is yes, there is a Harry Potter-inspired Quidditch league. It’s a national intercollegiate program which culminates in a world cup playoff.  Nothing quite like watching a bunch of fanboys (and girls) run around a field with broomsticks between their legs.

Two Sundays ago, we caught the NYU team practicing on the PACE field in Sara D. Roosevelt Park at Canal Street. Apparently these so-called anti-athletes were in training for the Quidditch World Cup, slated for next weekend (November 11 & 12) on Randall’s Island.  You can check the full schedule of games on the official website.

In the meantime, this is a brief primer of the fantasy game:

  • Harry

Well they may not have girlfriends but at least they’ll be ready when brooms actually start flying.
