Funini Panini Bar Opens at 143 Ludlow
The spine of Hell Square, as it were, now boasts an establishment that boldly claims to be “the new flavor authority of the Lower East Side.” One that fits like a glove alongside other nearby nightlife-pandering grub spots. Since mid-November, the recently-shuttered Ludlow Nail Spa at 143 Ludlow Street has quietly undergone a complete transformation into a fast foodish eatery. Goodbye pedis, hello paninis.
After a series of December delays, the veil was finally lifted on neighborhood newcomer Funini yesterday evening. The concept is familiar – a panini bar offering a cheap eats “gourmet” menu. There’s something here for the carnivores and veggies alike, with sandwich price points topping out at $9.
As for the in-store experience, it’s close quarters bar-stool dining with room for just over a dozen eaters.
