NBC’s “Smash” Filming on Essex Today

NBC is putting a shit-load of resources into its newest pilot, the musical series Smash.  The streetside advertising is everywhere.  And now filming activities are returning to the Lower East Side today.  Smash crews were last seen in these parts back in November.  Those yellow “no parking” signs currently run the length of Essex Street, and spill over to Stanton and beyond.

Steven Spielberg is on board as executive producer on the project, but the talent doesn’t stop there.  The show stars Debra Messing and Christian Borle as musical composers creating a play about Marilyn Monroe; supporting actors including roles by Jack Davenport, Anjelica Huston, Brian d’Arcy James, Megan Hilty, and Katharine McPhee.

Smash premieres next Monday.

At the 2nd Annual Greek Jewish Festival [RECAP]

Traditional food (burekas, baklava), song, […]

Rivington House Roundup: More Administration Officials Knew About the Deal, but Mayor Still Denies

How is it that several in his inner circle knew about the shady Rivington House deed deal, except for Mayor de Blasio himself? It seems like every week another headline is written claiming a “top aide” possessed knowledge of what was happening, namely that the deed to keep the space a nonprofit would be lifted for […]
