NBC’s “Smash” Filming on Essex Today
NBC is putting a shit-load of resources into its newest pilot, the musical series Smash. The streetside advertising is everywhere. And now filming activities are returning to the Lower East Side today. Smash crews were last seen in these parts back in November. Those yellow “no parking” signs currently run the length of Essex Street, and spill over to Stanton and beyond.
Steven Spielberg is on board as executive producer on the project, but the talent doesn’t stop there. The show stars Debra Messing and Christian Borle as musical composers creating a play about Marilyn Monroe; supporting actors including roles by Jack Davenport, Anjelica Huston, Brian d’Arcy James, Megan Hilty, and Katharine McPhee.
Smash premieres next Monday.
