NBC’s “Smash” Filming on Essex Today

NBC is putting a shit-load of resources into its newest pilot, the musical series Smash.  The streetside advertising is everywhere.  And now filming activities are returning to the Lower East Side today.  Smash crews were last seen in these parts back in November.  Those yellow “no parking” signs currently run the length of Essex Street, and spill over to Stanton and beyond.

Steven Spielberg is on board as executive producer on the project, but the talent doesn’t stop there.  The show stars Debra Messing and Christian Borle as musical composers creating a play about Marilyn Monroe; supporting actors including roles by Jack Davenport, Anjelica Huston, Brian d’Arcy James, Megan Hilty, and Katharine McPhee.

Smash premieres next Monday.

Katz’s Deli Files DOB Permits to Fix Basement Space Ruined in Water Main Rupture

Moreover, the sidewalk out front caved […]

‘Colfax and Bale’ Will Soon Bring Streetwear and Urban Vibes to 174 Ludlow Street

Colfax and Bale sounds more like a high-end department store or maybe one of those law firms advertised on the subway. Far from it, though. It’s actually the name of a new street-style apparel store opening at 174 Ludlow Street. For the last year, 174 Ludlow had been a vacancy, with its security gate perpetually shuttered. […]

Vivi Bubble Tea is opening its fourteenth outpost here at the corner of East Houston. The announcement was taped in the window yesterday evening. Their menu includes milk teas, flavored […]
