Block Headwear Reopening at 89 East Houston

In the six months since Georgia Beauty Shop shuttered its 89 East Houston HQ, speculation remained prevalent as to what entity would play role as replacement. Rumors initially had it pegged that the successful Bowery Coffee was considering a move to annex the adjacent space. But we now learn that’s not the case. Think Caps for Sale.

The roll-down gates at 89 East Houston remained drawn for much of this dreary winter interim period. However, a few weeks ago, the space began buzzing again with some remodeling activity. Here’s why. Sources are saying that city-based Block Headwear recently secured the location, and will be opening here soon. Antique hat-making equipment (i.e. molds) is already adorning the window sills.

You’ll recall that Block moved from 10 Prince Street in mid-January after a brief two-year stint, and promised to return. Meanwhile, the upscale French import Maje is taking over retail duties there.
