151 East Houston Hotel Plans Rooftop Extension
Posted on: May 14th, 2012 by Elie
Uh-oh. This latest news will certainly upset the Eldridge Street neighbors, who are already on edge about the nearby hotel at 151 East Houston. As if it wasn’t bad enough that the boutique lodge is on the SLA agenda tonight to fight for a rooftop bar, we now bring word that this is most likely just step one. Step two is worrisome…

A quick poke-and-stumble around the ADB Associates website reveals this single, disturbing rendering. Apparently the designing process is already underway on a four-story rooftop exptension. The city-based architecture firm, currently involved in the construction of a different hotel at 163 Orchard Street, has been tasked with implementing this new tumor. Based on the project listing, the hotel addition pushes the total height to 118 feet (10 stories) at a cost of approximately $6.5 million.

You’ll recall that 151 East Houston hit the chopping block back in February for a hefty $21 million price tag. As of this writing, it appears that no sale has yet been made on the property.
