Poll: “In” or “On” the Lower East Side?

Posted on: May 31st, 2012 by

This is New York City. We tend to wait “ON” line and may or may not visit someone ON Long/Staten Island. But how do we refer to our beloved Lower East Side in conversation? The crowds seem divided on the matter – some choosing the arguably inferior “IN” preposition.

However, our quick, highly scientific Bowery Boogie Facebook poll reveals that most of our readers live and/or hang ON the Lower East Side, not IN it. But our neighbors to the north reside IN the East Village. All of which are IN Manhattan.

So, time for you to weigh in! Is it IN or ON? We need a drink…

“on” the Lower East Side. Anything having to do with a side is “on.” As in “Which side you on?”
