Calexico Gunning for Bondi Road Space on Rivington

More intel is rolling into Boogie HQ from street level about the fate of six-year-old seafood-surf spot Bondi Road.

Earlier this spring, word broke that Bondi Road was for sale and that 153 Rivington Street was on the open market for $12,500. We heard subsequent whispers that the lease on the space is set to expire come September, and that management will not be renewing. Apparently business is way down and running this sister location of the Sunburnt Cow is no longer profitable. Weekend brunch is still a hopping scene, but that’s about it.

These recent real estate developments make perfect sense after perusing next month’s SLA agenda for Community Board 3. Indeed, another restaurant is already waiting in the wings. Included in the list of July applicants (#22) is popular Mexican food cart Calexico, gunning to open a brick-and-mortar branch here at 153 Rivington. Ownership intends to secure a full on-premise license for the space.  If approved, the Lower East Side outpost would be the third non-cart location and first in Manhattan.
