How About Competitive Air Sex?

Air guitaring as an art-form was no doubt popularized by heroes Bill and Ted in their eponymous 1989 adventure. Remember, the Wyld Stallyns celebrated small successes with a quick on-screen riff. These days competitions and championship match-ups are a worldwide phenomenon. In fact, the Bowery Ballroom just hosted one such event last week.

And what goes better with rock n roll than sex? The genre name itself is a euphemism for the nasty, appearing in many early Rhythm and Blues records, and later coined by DJ Alan Freed. So it makes sense that someone out there would start the “Air Sex World Championship.” It’s exactly how you’d picture it, and the latest showdown was held last night at Drom on Avenue A.
