Recap: 30th Annual Coney Island Mermaid Parade

On Saturday afternoon, Coney Island welcomed the thirtieth annual Mermaid Parade to its shores. The weather was perfect, with crowds pouring out of the subway and onto Surf Avenue for the quasi-corporate carny spectacle. Translation – a hot sweaty mess.

The shitshow began on the F train from the Lower East Side with a packed car of parade goers and participants alike.

A quick ride of the cyclone and a side of whiplash later, the parade began. Classic cars, pole dancers, unicyclists, stilt-wearing hoola-hoopers, Occupiers, and a friggin Back to the Future Delorean. That’s all we’ll say.
