The intersection of Delancey and Clinton both taketh and giveth life. Indeed, it was here early yesterday morning (9 am) that a woman birthed twin girls in the back seat of a taxicab.

Four EMTs from Station 4 responded – Paramedic Frank Kupferberg, Paramedic Alexander Khalef, EMT Tiege Dolly and EMT Jonathan Nagaki – and were reportedly on scene within a minute. Upon arrival, one baby had already been delivered with the second on the way. Mother and children were packaged and rushed to the maternity ward of Bellevue Hospital.

They found one baby had been delivered and the second was on the way. They cut the cord, suctioned the baby’s mouth and wrapped her in a foil blanket. There was a language barrier, so EMT Nagaki, who speaks Spanish, was translating.

The EMS members said they saw the family later and, Paramedic Khalef said, “everyone was all smiles. The dad was happy because now he has four girls.”
