“Go-Topless Day” Planned for August 26

By nonchalantly baring her breasts around town, grassroots activist Moira Johnston is almost single-handedly raising awareness about the legalities of ladies going topless in public. Despite societal pressures to the contrary, it is 100% legal in New York State for men and women to be shirtless. Now you, too, can join in the fun on a larger scale.

In honor of Women’s Equality Day on August 26, the GoTopless organization is championing the act with its fifth annual international “Go-Topless Day.”

While the main event actually transpires in DC, New York will host its own rally by marching from Bryant Park to Times Square and back. Will Ms. Johnston lead the pack?

The Daily Beast just published a lengthy expose on the 29-year-old, and revealed that a recent yoga class provided the spark to act.

It all started in January at a yoga studio in Manhattan, when Johnston was banished after she took her top off in class. Some of the other yogis complained to the owners about her bare breasts, but Johnston thought it unfair that men be allowed to go topless in Downward Dog while women are forced to keep their mammaries in their Lululemon tanks.

“These yoga studios should know it’s a civil rights violation.”
