The Lower East Side BID is hungry for more territory. Expansion plans were first outlined by executive director Bob Zuckerman last year with a goal of receiving enough support from ballots to begin the approval process which is now underway.

The BID hosted a double-header presentation at party palace, the DL, on Wednesday to inform the community of their overall intentions to balloon the boundaries, so to speak. A quick gander at the circulated map proves the proposal is quite ambitious, effectively tripling the current size of the district.

This community engagement marked the start of the formal public review process for the expansion. Many more such meetings will transpire in the coming months before the ultimate goal is realized. It’ll most likely take a year for the proposal to meander its way through the various city agencies, assuming, of course, that there aren’t too many hurdles along the way. Buckle up!
