Chase Bank Branches on Delancey Consolidate

Consolidation was bound to happen. Once Chase Bank purchased Washington Mutual in 2009, there wasn’t much reason to maintain two identical branches on either side of Delancey Street. So now, after years serving the neighborhood, the financial institution will no longer operate at 104 Delancey.

Two months ago, a simple leasing sign appeared beside the illuminated marquee signage. Bank tellers and window announcements together confirmed the news – this branch is merging with the recently-expanded outpost across the way at the corner of Essex (111 Delancey). As of earlier this week, the ATM lobby is without its money-doling machinery and the illuminated Chase letters have already been pried from the facade.

This soulless space seems custom fit for an office or a sterile commercial establishment like another bank. Or a Duane Reade…which could happen if it decided to expand from next door.
