Down East Becomes “Nor East Clam Shack” on Delancey

Down East is down the drain, so to speak. The week-old cubbyhole clam shack adjacent to Grey Lady at 77 Delancey Street is now operating under a new moniker. Thanks to a hasty cease-and-desist from a Long Island seafood distributor called Down East Seafood, the snack bar is henceforth professionally known as the Nor East Clam Shack. The blackboard has since been erased and re-drawn.

According to the proprietors, Nor East will have a limited menu until Wednesday of clam rolls, New England style hot dogs, lobster rolls, and a Narraganset beer-battered fluke on a potato roll. Each option is apparently served with a house-made pickle, cole slaw, and bag of Cape Cod chips packed in a doggie bag. Got that?
And if that wasn’t enough, there will also be a guy shucking takeaway orders of oysters and clams on a daily basis.
