El Castillo de Jagua II on Grand Closed by Health Department

Posted on: August 21st, 2012 by

The sister outpost of popular Cuban eatery El Castillo de Jagua at 521 Grand Street was shut down by the Department of Health this past Friday. A quick peek at the DOH database shows 38 violation points for infractions like the presence of “filth flies” and cockroaches in the food area. Crunchy-delish!

Rest assured, though, fair fans of El Castillo #2. Workers informed us yesterday that they’re planning to reopen today.

How do you feel about the closure, and about the restaurant in general?

I’ve lived across the street from this restaurant for over 5 years now and have been horrified by it since my very first and only meal. The place was disgusting and it’s fantastic they got shut down. Hopefully they’ll go out of business and finally we’ll get something worthwhile in their space.

I like how they changed the wall color to maybe look like they just closed to paint the place.

This place serves the community very well. The place isnt disgusting thats just an opinion of someone who got bad service or dislikes the food or just doesnt like ethnic resturants in their neighborhood. The place is great. You aint going to get a 5 star place on grand street, people. IF you did, you would be complaining we couldnt afford it.
