The Water Hustlers of Allen Street

Stand outside the Allen Street frontage of Zarin Fabrics for ten minutes on the weekends. In that short time period, a bevvy of hop-on-hop-off buses will stop at the designated spot. Some tourists will oblige, but most won’t. Fish out of water.

Capitalizing on this constant stream of activity is a small group of water sellers curbside. They sit in the shade with a cooler full of ice cold water at the ready. Bus drivers appear to receive free bottles as payment for allowing the hustlers aboard to sell. A much bolder approach, since these guys formerly used the bucket-on-a-stick tactic.

Meanwhile, workers from local stores unknown wheel over cases via handtrucks. Gold mine.
