Wheat-Paste Backlash on Rivington Street

Posted on: August 16th, 2012 by

The noticeable spillover effect from Freeman’s Alley has created quite the graffiti hotspot in recent years. Indeed, there’s no shortage of great street art to film or photograph on the block of Rivington between the Bowery and Chrystie Street. Hanksy, ASVP, ME, and quite a few others have, in the past, actively made this nook their home.

But not everyone is happy, especially with regard to recent wheat-paste tactics. Dwellers at 6 Rivington penned this urban etiquette sign asking graffiti artists not to use “glued paper art on this door.” Judging by the tone, however, it seems they’re okay with all the other scribbles and tags defacing the facade.
