“Chinese Puzzle” Back on the Lower East Side Today

French flick Chinese Puzzle will be filming in its namesake neighborhood today. Expect all the usual production nuisances on the eastern fringe of Chinatown, bounded by Allen/Forsyth and Broome/Hester.

Chinese Puzzle is the third installment in Cedric Klapsich’s trilogy that “follows the lives of four fictitious characters over the past decade.” The film is the sequel to “Russian Dolls” and “L’Auberge Espagnole,” which finds protagonist Xavier during a mid-life crisis on the eve of his 40th birthday.

Is anybody actually significantly inconvenienced by this, as the word “nuisance” suggests? I mean, are you constantly trying to park on the streets during the day or something? Seeing things being shot on the street is fun, and has always been a cool little perk of living in NYC as far as I’m concerned. Even if there are some minor inconveniences, it’s totally worth it to spot familiar streets and storefronts on TV and in movies – it’s fun, and there isn’t anybody I know that doesn’t enjoy this on some level. Plus, it brings revenues to the city. Until they come to my house and start using the bathroom at peak hours, or shut down the subway, I kind of don’t get the hostile stance on this blog towards film and tv production.
