Delancey “Gateway Plaza” Now Boasts Roadblocks and Planters

The slow trickle of safety improvements along the Delancey Street corridor continues this week with additional upgrades to the so-called “gateway plaza.” Since the advent of new traffic patterns here over the summer, including increased crossing times, the south side of the street between Norfolk and Clinton was deemed off limits to motorists. The ghetto tan paint job explains as much.

Now it’s a bit easier on the eyes…and less dangerous for the pedestrians walking there. An alternating pattern of immovable stone roadblocks and topped-off planters currently line the perimeter of this pseudo-park zone. There’s even a lone table-and-chairs configuration bolted to one of the medians.

Finally. And thanks to all that made this happen.

Now all they need to do it STOP all the drivers who turn left on Delancey from Essex. Every day I see poor pedestrians nearly getting clipped by car thugs. I’ve even seen cop cars at the intersection just WATCH cars turn left. It’s a joke.

Its illegal to make a left turn on Essex onto Delancey but they do it anyway even tho there’s 3 no left turn signs
