Local Spokes Youth Ambassadors Unveil Artistic Bike Signage on Lower East Side

As part of the Local Spokes coalition, ten local teenagers (i.e. Youth Ambassadors) spent six weeks this past summer learning about the Lower East Side by bicycle. The culmination of their experience is now celebrated with the recent unveiling of “Explore Your Neighborhood by Bike,” a neighborhood-wide art installation that encourages safe bike riding while simultaneously conveying themes learned in the program.
The so-called Youth Ambassadors created a series of colorful signs that are affixed to street furniture along bike paths and greenways. Nine of the sixteen are along the Allen Street Mall. Official inauguration was held last Saturday with a ceremony in Sara D. Roosevelt Park.
