The “Ground Zero Flag” at 116 Mott Street

In the decade since the towers fell, 116 Mott has been upholding a tear-jerker of a tradition. Each year in the run-up to 9/11, a ginormous “Ground Zero Flag” is unfurled from the rooftop, masking six stories of brick in the process. The memorial was installed a few weeks ago and is visible from blocks away.

The massive 60′ x 30′ flag itself is a replica of the one draped from the Brooks Brothers building on September 11, 2001. It’ll remain here Chinatown until September 22, at which point it’ll be deposed and folded. Until next year.
The tradition continues as in the past. The flag has been displayed at 116 Mott Street since September of 2002 and every year since, and will continue to be a beacon of our commitment to our service men and women until everyone is home and the task at hand is completed. To all our men and women in uniform, God bless and God bless America.
