There Was a Fire at 157 Rivington Last Night [Updated]

Posted on: October 8th, 2012 by

At roughly 1:30 am this morning, there was an all-hands fire at 157 Rivington Street, the tenement building adjacent to St. Jerome’s. The blaze reportedly sparked on the second floor. That explains the cacophony of sirens you may have heard.

UPDATE: One reader lives in the neighboring building. Firefighters on hand this morning informed her that the fire started due to the deadly combo of space heater and mattress. No injuries reported.

Conditions are perfect for this to occur – unexpected drop in temps for the first time of the season means boilers haven’t been turned on and people turn to space heaters.
