An unidentified “New Orleans-themed tavern” in the neighborhood has taken to Craigslist to seek out an armed security guard with “a pleasant, even jovial, demeanor & attitude, physically touching anyone only as a last resort, always.”

Below is the full ad:

Bar owner seeks mature security person, with gun carry permit. Military, police, federal agents, MMA background a plus (doorman, ID checker experience a must) for bar/business security; a chill, fun, popular New Orleans Themed tavern, no trouble really. And as you will be dealing directly with the public, the perfect person will have a pleasant, even jovial, demeanor & attitude, physically touching anyone only as a last resort, always. And personal security for bar owner (not involved in any illicit activities of any kind) when in the bar. Guaranteed 4 nights a week, Sun, Mon, Fri & Sat. Please include a picture with your resume and a hourly or nightly pay expectation.

Seems drastic. How do you feel about posting an armed security guard with a carry permit at your local bar? Sound off in the comments!

Clayton’s Corner: The 1980s, Lest We Forget [PHOTOS]

The 1980s, lest we forget… On the one hand we tend to over-romanticize how wonderful the old Lower East Side was. Fact is, it was dangerous, dirty, and often with poor living conditions. There was a blur between the good guys and bad guys; a number of cops were as deeply involved in the illegal […]

After $12.3M Sale, Longtime Chinese Laundromat Forced from 249-251 Broome Street

The reliable Sun Kwong Laundromat at 251 Broome Street was given its marching orders last week. Alas, its final day serving the neighborhood is tomorrow (May 25). There is a sign on the front door alerting patrons that the business lost their lease. The laundromat kept the area in clean clothes for more than a decade, and […]

Bloodbath in the Bargain District: 3 More Discount Vendors on Orchard Street Bow Out

It’s a bloodbath in the former “Bargain District.” Three old school apparel vendors are on the way out. All in quick succession. The second coming of Giuseppe Uomo ended earlier this month. But the closure is actually a year in the making. The store closing signs first appeared at 130 Orchard Street around this time last […]

Ben Sherman to Officially Close SoHo Store Next Week After 10 Years on the Block

SoHo fashion outpost for anglophiles, Ben Sherman, has been on life support (i.e. month-to-month) since last fall. As previously reported, the brand is ditching its longtime digs after exactly ten years on the block. When we first […]

Could this be the 169 Bar on East Broadway? or where else?
Is the clientele so unruly that an armed guard is needed? If so, Community Board 3 should have some input and this should be reported to them

    • Hey19

I know an off duty bartender who got stabbed in the head at 169Bar.

  • what could go wrong?

  • LESider

What could go wrong? How about a gun fight on East Broadway or wherever this bar is located on the LES. So sick of these bars with their suburban wannabe hipsters who wake up the neighborhood at 4AM with their wasted clatter and then leave a vomit trail behind them…

  • it’s illegal to ask for a photo with your resume.

  • Annoyedlessider

They should reduce the closing times in nyc to 1AM.

  • Seems they’re taking the New Orleans theme a little too far, doesn’t it? It’s a bad idea.

…and Annoyedlessider – you may have other reasons why you want the rollback, but whatever is up with this bar and the issue of closing time are unrelated things. They could have violence at 1am, 10pm, 3am, or 6pm, so your logic escapes me.

  • “personal security for bar owner – not involved in any illicit activities of any kind” – sounds shady as fuck. Anyone who points out that fact is definitely involved in illicit activities. Why else would they need a gun-toting giant MMA fighter as personal bodyguard?

and isn’t “personal bodyguard” a totally different class of job than “bouncer”?

    giant red flags here people
