Strokes news is fast and furious this week. First a fresh single to tickle the ears (“One Way Trigger”) and now more conclusive album details. Billboard has it that the city-based retro-rock outfit will drop its fifth studio LP, Comedown Machine, on March 26. Hopefully the music contained therein sounds better than this lame-ass title…

The first official single is “All the Time,” available to the public as a free download for those who pre-order the record starting February 19.

By the way, the release date for Comedown Machine comes nearly two years to the day after the arrival of Angles.

What do you think of the new song…and the cover art?

With ‘Walltime,’ Bowery and East Houston Becomes User-Generated TV Screen

Over the years, the south-facing exposure of 294 Bowery has boasted its fair share of advertising. And plenty of graffiti, naturally. Now, this enormous white space above (and unrelated to) […]

The next month, February 2016, the proverbial shit hit the fan. Indeed, the […]

Laces Out: Payless is Closing Delancey Street Store After 6 Years

Payless ShoeSource is a goner. The six-year-old store at 130 Delancey Street – inside the big-box base of the Blue condo – is closing in short order. Discount signs in the windows announce the closure and requisite sale, employing the tagline, “closing here but open near.” (The nearest location is 34th Street.) Payless has apparently […]

The Cuban Corn Crisis on Prince Street

The corner of Prince and Elizabeth Streets was noticeably quiet yesterday as Cafe Habana’s lunch patrons were met with a locked door instead of the trendy cafe’s signature Cuban grilled corn. Throughout the day, would-be patrons who normally loiter outside while waiting for tables or chomping down on corn, appeared confused at the closure. That […]
