Upgraded Hester Street Playground Courts Ready for Action
Chinatown ball players – be it hoops or hands – will be stoked to learn that the Hester courts inside Sara D. Roosevelt Park are accessible once more. Surgical upgrades to this upper section of the Hester Street Playground have beaten our initial completion estimates.
Three months into the official groundbreaking onsite, the project appears complete. Indeed, while tarps and plywood still grace the perimeter fencing, some neighborhood kids have decided against waiting for the official unveiling. The chain-link fencing is already rolled back, providing access to both the basketball and handball courts. At the moment, the only way of gaining entry is via Forsyth flank of the park.
Let’s just call this a “soft open.”
