From the Boogie mailbag:
Tax season can bring confusion and hassles, but the Educational Alliance’s free tax preparation service, sponsored by AARP, helps mitigate the seasonal stress. Every Wednesday from February 6 to April 10 from 9am – 12:30 pm, anyone can come by the Educational Alliance’s offices at 232 East Broadway and work with specialists to file their taxes.
Those interested should bring W-2 statements, bank statements, receipts and bills for claim, and bank information (if using direct deposit for your tax return). Filing is limited to simple filing (1090 short form) and excludes self-owned businesses with the exception of those with expenses below $5000, recent bankruptcies, and filing that requires more than 1 hour.
Those interested should bring two forms of identification – a social security card and a photo ID. A utility bill can also be used in place of photo ID.
