The “Beastie Boys Square” that wasn’t now has a rather loud visual. Wolfnights – descendant of the Paul’s Boutique-era bargain business establishment – donated its wall for a tribute to the trio.

Street artist Danielle Mastrion spent the entirety of Saturday painting Mike D, MCA, and Ad Rock on the Ludlow facade of the restaurant. This particular piece is a nod to the recently-celebrated 25th anniversary of Paul’s Boutique, which featured 99 Rivington Street on the cover (the store was then known as Lee’s Sportswear).

As we first reported, the mural was commissioned by LeRoy McCarthy whose mission is to have the city officially honor the roots of hip hop music. “Beastie Boys Square” was his highest-profile attempt, but ultimately failed at the hands of Community Board 3.

Paul’s Boutique was released on July 25, 1989.
