Neighbors Irked by Penis in the Window of 52 Kenmare [NSFW]

The Rivington Design House – no longer on its namesake street – is making waves. Their new headquarters at 52 Kenmare Street currently boasts a poster of a naked man in the window. Flaccid penis and all.

The public nudity display is actually part of Bek Andersen’s gallery installation at the Rivington Design House called “Clothed Female/Naked Male.” It’s exactly as it sounds; opening was last Thursday.

Some neighbors, as you might guess, are fairly irate over the X-rated window garnishment. We received the following communique in the mailbag:

There is a large photo of a naked man in the window of [52] Kenmare Street. I guess the new people in the neighborhood are unaware of how many children live here.

Aborted Comeback: Subway Franchise Officially Closes on Essex Street

So much for a comeback. Barely three months after Subway returned from a debilitating flood, its Essex Street sandwich shop is donezo. A short-lived recovery, to say the least. Marquee signage was pried from the facade last week and leasing info propped in the windows. It’s not entirely surprising that the second coming of Subway […]
