Steve Croman, a reviled landlord who, for years, profited on the backs of his tenants, now faces the music. He was charged with twenty felonies including grand larceny, falsifying business records, tax fraud, conspiring to defraud, and offering a false instrument; his mortgage broker Barry Swartz faces fifteen felonies including grand larceny, falsifying records, and conspiring to defraud. The two face up to twenty-five years in prison.

This is vindication for the dozens of tenants whose lives were ruined by this man and his practices. May they receive the maximum penalty.

There is a simultaneous civil lawsuit brought against Croman, too, for routinely employing threats and frivolous lawsuits in a concerted effort to boot rent regulated tenants.

And, to ensure the masses see it, below is the official indictment paperwork handed down by Attorney General Eric Schneiderman on Monday.

Yet, the announcement […]

There is a New Beastie Boys Mural at Ludlow and Rivington

Hold it now, the Beastie Boys mural on Ludlow Street is updated. Danielle Mastrion, the street artist who painted the original artwork on the Wolfnights facade three years ago, was tapped for an encore this weekend. The predecessor was swiftly erased with blue paint and reborn. The small sidewalk party and mural painting was essentially a PR […]

Seward Park Co-op Building Had a Fire in its Boiler Room Yesterday [Updated]

You may have noticed the extreme response of fire engines on Clinton Street yesterday morning, just outside Fine Fare.
