Gino Sorbillo’s Pizza Joint Makes it Official on the Bowery
Naples pizza master Gino Sorbillo is inching closer to unveiling his newest restaurant. The eponymous stateside pizzeria, the first in America, will soon open at 334 Bowery, between Bond and Great Jones Streets.
Sidewalk shed was recently removed, and teaser posters installed in the now-liberated windows. Exact timetable on opening is elusive. By summertime seems likely. Our request for comment was not immediately returned.
Sorbillo’s reputation precedes him. La Pizzeria Sorbillo is the owner’s claim to fame, much beloved by residents of Naples. Vice ventured to call it “the best and most famous” pizza place in that city.
Here at home, though, the mid-block store on the west side of the thoroughfare, 334 Bowery has seen a revolving door of pizza purveyors blow through in the last few years (Forcella, Slice of Naples, and relative newcomer SRO Pizza). Keeping track proves a full time job in itself.
