Earlier this week, Midtown Lunch reported on a new food truck that recently hit the streets of Manhattan, the Souvlaki GR.  The aptly-named venture serves up Greek-style truck treats, including souvlaki, bifteki sandwiches, and fries. Yesterday evening, it was parked at the southeast corner of West Houston and Thompson Street.

It’s really no secret that the leather vendors on Orchard Street are hanging on for dear life.  Their demise is gradual, but seemingly inevitable in the face of the gold rush.  Sunday pedestrian malls don’t attract so much foot traffic anymore, and many of the old-school storefronts are quietly shuttering.  One-by-one. Looks like the V train is having the last laugh; it’s not quite dead yet.  Although the subway line was phased out back in June, and a hipster party thrown to celebrate-slash-mourn, subtle remnants of its existence are still visible.

Philippe Petit is the French high-wire artist who became an international sensation for his tightrope walk between the Twin Towers.  That event was chronicled in the film Man on Wire.  Now, Supreme, the sixteen-year-old bastion of downtown skate culture, has some video of Petit a bit closer to ground.
