Caught red-handed, Ken & Cook at 19 Kenmare Street ultimately nixed its illegal basement club, Lil Charlie’s. New Year’s Eve was its last party on premise. Eater had the scoop last week, and reported that the ground-level restaurant will simply expand its operation into the dungeon instead. This will allow for bigger dinner parties and […]

Brokers for the recently-refurbished 70 Kenmare Street managed to snag a big player in the ramen game. According to the Community Board 2 calendar for December, Kenshiro Uki of Teterboro manufacturer Sun Noodle is looking to open an outpost of the Ramen Lab at this address. His application specifies the need for a wine and […]

One Boogie reader dined brunch at Ken & Cook this weekend, and sent along this snapshot of their menu alongside the caption, “gracious spellcheck.” Apparently the restaurant owners at 19 Kenmare opted against copy editing before running to press. Our tipster circled all the egregious spelling errors and assorted typos, including “wafefels” and “Greeg ygurt.” […]

While the full SLA board acted favorably toward Soho House for Ludlow Street, the same could not be said for Lil Charlie’s on Kenmare. This basement club has been operating illegally (i.e. against its method of operation) beneath Ken & Cook, much to the ire of local residents. Travertine and its loud late-night clientele never sat right with locals. Its successor at 19 Kenmare isn’t much better, either. Ken & Cook continues the fine tradition of feather ruffling due to its continuous and wanton disregard for the community. For instance, there is still no certificate of occupancy for 19 Kenmare Street, the sidewalk […]

Looks like it might be back to pop-ups at 129 Rivington after two years of holding down a solid tenant.

Heather Tierney of Apotheke fame opened the Butcher’s Daughter last November at 19 Kenmare. Often busy during the morning rush, it’s a juice bar and veggie eatery which also carries a beer and wine license and sidewalk dining. And now, at barely one-year-old, the company is expanding its somewhat antiseptic footprint. We are told that […]

For about a year, the revamped facade of 70-78 Kenmare Street has been sitting all by its lonesome. Now it’s got some friends.

Hanksy has been rather quiet on the streets of the Lower East Side lately. The high-profile west coast show at Gallery 1988 occupied much of the artist’s attention. As did the back alleys of OK Cupid. Anyway, the prolific “street fartist” and self-proclaimed King of Puns returned to the fold last night with a series […]
