In the last 24 hours, a number of tipsters have alerted us to the progress at 150 Bowery, which NYC the Blog had also covered just the other day.  Earlier this week, the long-shuttered security gates were lifted and a new plywood encasement constructed.  This latest news does not bode well for the already-endangered lighting [...]

Downtown New York is now in a tizzy, as the Chinatown border wars continue to flare.  The Villager first exposed the subject back in May. As it stands, the powerful Chinatown Partnership Local Development Corporation is on an ambitious quest to expand its boundaries so it can create a larger Business Improvement District (BID).

At about 10:30 last night, hours after Spain defeated the Netherlands in the World Cup final, one drunken reveler was stumbling up Bowery sounding his ear-piercing vuvuzela.  The noise elicited responses from many of the drivers stopped in traffic just north of Delancey.

Ladies and gentlemen, the gavel has fallen, and the verdict is now in regarding the proposed restaurant-slash-bar at 168 Elizabeth Street.  A reader wrote to inform us that Community Board 2 voted unanimously against Matthew Oliver Maddy at its full board meeting on June 17.
